ACTION OR CITIZEN PROTEST
Memorandum submitted on 9 Sept 2026. If engineered concrete repair work and budget sanctions are not initiated within 15 days, residents and students will assemble for a peaceful public demonstration.
Unless the Public Works Department initiates physical engineered repairs.
Official Letter Submitted Nearly 1 Year Ago
On 8 November 2025, the Rahmat Abad Friends Forum (RFF) formally petitioned Shri Mankal Vaidya (Hon'ble Minister for Fisheries & District In-Charge Minister, Uttara Kannada) highlighting the critical state of this road.
“The road has become dangerous — vehicles get damaged, people fall and get injured, and during rains, waterlogging creates an unbearable situation as there is no proper drainage.”
Addressed to: District In-Charge Minister, PWD & Civic Officials
Status: Unresolved after 10+ months.

Waterlogged craters force auto-rickshaws into oncoming wrong-way lanes.
Severe 5-inch asphalt drop-off causing constant two-wheeler skids.
Lack of drainage sub-base turns temporary patches into slippery sludge.
When Citizens Have to Repair Their Own Road
Temporary Relief vs Civil EngineeringFrustrated by daily hazards to school children, local residents and drivers have repeatedly contributed personal funds and manual labor to fill major cavities with broken tiles and mud.
The Civil Engineering Reality: Temporary mud and uncompacted stone filling cannot withstand Bhatkal's coastal rainfall or heavy school bus traffic. Within days, ad-hoc filling deteriorates back into dangerous sludge. The corridor requires an engineered concrete road with structured stormwater drainage.
Our Constructive Demands
Respectful Appeal to the Administration- End-to-End Inspection: Conduct a comprehensive technical inspection of the complete Jamia Abad / Gandhinagar stretch during peak morning school transit.
- Address Engineering Root Causes: Resolve recurring sub-base failures caused by coastal water table issues.
- Permanent Concrete / Bituminous Solution: Sanction a durable, heavy-duty asphalt or concrete road engineered for institutional traffic.
- Construct Covered Stormwater Drains: Build continuous side drains to eliminate standing water on road shoulders.
- Student Transit Safety Zones: Install pedestrian crossings and school-zone warning signage near Shams School, Ali Public School, and Jamia Islamia.
- Publish Work Timeline: Provide the public with official progress updates and estimated completion milestones.
